Our pittie, Peaches, is a proud Canine Good Citizen!
She's 5 years old, and we rescued her in January. Her previous owners went to jail for felony animal abuse - Peaches was trapped at animal control for a year while she served as evidence in the abuse case. After her owners were convicted, the country didn't need Peaches any more and were going to euthanize her. A rescue stepped in and provided transport to us - when we
got her, she had never lived in a house before or had any affection, plus she had cancer and was heartworm positive! Once she got healthy, it only took her a couple of months to pass her CGC. Now she's working for her therapy dog certification.
Her story demonstrates the resilience and loving nature of pit bulls. Peaches is an excellent 'ambassadog' and would make a wonderful APBF mascot!
You can see more about her at http://www.facebook.com/peachesthewonderpit

June is a Canine Good Citizen and a wonderful
ambassador to bully breeds everywhere. Because of her petite size, she is often miss identified . But, don't let the small size fool you, her heart and drive are larger than life. These qualities that are associated with bully breeds are the reason that she is a nationally certified search and rescue dog. She and I enjoy training in the woods as often as possible, going to outdoor events, fishing, and traveling all over the South East attending search and rescue conferences. So far, she has been the only bully breed at any of the search and rescue conferences that I attend. Most people are skeptical at first, but once they see her in action, their minds and hearts change forever.

Read their stories and then choose on the web poll who you think should be the APBF mascot for 2012.
Breezy
Breezy has never missed a meal...she came from a
good home and is blessed to have never been abused. Breezy's love comes from her eyes and she shares that love with all. Children feel her love and go straight to her. She has a rescue brother and sister and she shows them the way to happiness. There is not a mean bone in her body and I am so honored
and lucky to have her in my life. Breezy could show the world the love of a pit and that makes them the most special breed I have ever encountered.
Sophie
Sophie should be the 2012 APBF Masoct because she is
the absolute sweetest pitbull in the world. She loves children and other pets. She lives with her sisters; a cat and a black lab and loves them both dearly. Sophie was found in a field in SC with her siblings and no mom anywhere around. I believe she represents a loving pet that knows in her heart that she was rescued!
The first week we had Donnan he seemed EAGER to
learn and love!  He can now sit, wait for his food to be placed before him...he knows to stay for the "eat" command.  We are working on "lay"! Still needs some front-leg prompting.  He is friendly towards family, strangers, other dogs and the vet staff seems VERY pleased to see/pamper him.  Yes, the "spoiled" baby occasionally sleeps with us - STARTS off on his pad on the floor on my side.  He is EAGER to go outside and to take
walks...it's almost like, "Where have you been all my life?!?!?!" now that my husband and I have him!!!  We want to enroll him into S.T.A.R. and CGC classes when local reps are found.
Donnan
Fiona is my precious pit bull! I adopted her from
APBF in July of 2011. She was bred way too much and there were some signs of some abuse. But you would never know suspect it from this sweet girl! Fiona has such a big heart. Everyone who lays eyes on her just falls in love with
her. She just has such an outgoing, fun-loving personality that can make anyone smile. She is the joy of my life. Without Fiona, I don't know what I'd do. She touches everyone else's life that she meets. I don't know who really rescued who, haha. I believe that she is the best pit ever! Hands down. <3

Flash is our amazing, tripod pit.
Despite battling two types of cancer, and having a front leg amputated three years ago, Flash remains a vital and valuable member of our family and the community.
Not a day goes by without people stopping Flash on Clarks Creek Greenway during a walk with his parents to say hello. People driving by in their cars will slow down to get a look at our marvelous boy, who looks like hes hopping when hes walking.
His distinctive features and fantastic demeanor make him a favorite to all.  Last June, he was the focus of a high school seniors graduation project, which highlighted his journey from bait dog in Los Angeles to great dog in Charlotte.
Flash is loved everywhere he goes. At his rehabilitation clinic in
Huntersville, his nickname is "boyfriend," because he is beloved by all the technicians there. At his oncologist's office in south Charlotte, all the vet technicians and clerical workers stop to come over and say hello, get kisses and give him treats. It's a win-win for Flashy.
We wondered, as a sensitive boy, how Flash would do when he had surgery. But, when he saw his mom and dad post-amputation, he hopped off his gurney and was ready to come home.
It took him a month to learn to walk on three legs. His incredible will and stick-to-it-tiveness make him an inspiration to all.
In fact, there's a woman who jogs every morning near our house; one morning she stopped Flash's dad as they were out for a walk and said, 'every time I see this boy, I tell myself, if he can keep going, so can I. He's my inspiration." He's ours, too.

Kimber
Akiva
Akiva is a Certified Therapy Dog, registered Service
Animal, CGC and Temperament Tested (Amer. Temperament Test), a Champion Show dog, is the Highest ranking, highest scoring APBT in Agility in United Kennel Club's history, a UKC Super Dog (titled in Conformation, Obedience, Family Obedience, Rally Obedience, Agility, and Weight Pull).  She has
survived cancer (the only one who didn't realize there was anything wrong) and her loving demeanor has not only converted people afraid of APBTs but of dogs in general. She is a true Ambassador for the breed.

Kimber has been in my life since she was 3 months
old up until now she is 1.5 years old. She is just a bundle of joy and always wanting to meet new people/dogs. I can truly say she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She has a brother (Ruger) who is a rescue pit bull/lab mix, and a cat (Pooter) ...... and let me tell you the so called big bad pit bull doesn't run the show around the house, Pooter the cat does. Thanks for taking the time to read our story, and we would greatly appreciate the chance to show people what an American Pit Bull Terrier really is .....gentle, compassionate, caring, courageous, smart, and well-behaved are a few of the characteristics that come to mind. Vote Kimber :)

Taloola Belle is a WONDERFUL, sweet little girl. She
has been through a lot in her short life. Taloola was brought to the local shelter on February 14, 2011, when she was just four months old.  As I carried her off of the transport truck, we noticed her left front leg was so mangled that she wasnt able to use it. When I took her into the shelter she held onto me as if she was saying THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE!  That was when her new life began. She since has had to have her leg amputated.  After a great recovery Taloola is now the star of
every show. Many people dont notice right away that she only has three legs and she definitely does not allow her handicap to affect her.  You can find Taloola running through the park, playing with every dog she meets, and constantly smiling her little pitty smile. She truly is an inspiration to everyone she meets!

Cocoa has been through many phases in her life. She
spent the first few years of her life living as "Kiki" with some neglectful parents down in Florida before making her way to the NC.  She still has a couple lasting scars from her Florida years including a botched ear cropping (makes her look like Minnie Mouse) and a scar circling her neck from an embedded rope collar that had dug itself so deep... rescuers didn't know it was there at first. After arriving in NC "Kiki" was placed with new parents and became "Lucy". Unfortunately, only a year after being placed with her new parents.. she was looking for a new home again.  That's where we come in :) We originally intended on fostering "Lucy" for a weekend adoption event to help her find a new home, but minutes after meeting her we fell in love. She
jumped in our car, kissed our faces and just gave off this immeasurable loving energy that we quickly became addicted to. After bringing her home and introducing her to our other little girl "Daphne", her fate with us was sealed. The two of them played for hours and hours non-stop and they have quickly become inseparable sisters.
We adopted "Lucy" that same week and she became "Cocoa" aka "Cocoa Puff". After the first month we discovered a bump on her back leg and soon discovered it was a Stage 3 Mass Cell Tumor. We scheduled her surgery and after an agonizing wait.. she was set and ready to come home. We thought she was all better until about a week ago we discovered a new bump growing only inches from where the previous one had been.
Cocoa is by far the most loving, dedicated, passionate, determined, caring, resilient and forgiving Pitbull we have ever had the pleasure of having. We look forward to fighting the new bump and spending many more years waking up with Cocoa snoring in our faces.
Please vote for Cocoa :)

I believe that my dog;Betty White should be voted
your APBF Mascot because she is already a mascot here in Buffalo, NY. Betty was rescued out of our area pound where she had been sheltered there for way too long. She was missing a lot of fur on body due to kennel stress. I noticed her right away and I remember thinking what a beautiful dog she is. I am president and founder of an educational bully breed rescue in Buffalo, NY and Betty White is already a mascot for our group. Betty can be seen
every Sunday at our pit bull socials; HIKE A BULLS. She loves other dogs and helps all of our new rescues and foster dogs learn the ropes. She is lovable and a true clown. She is my running  partner, training partner and life partner. I am proud that she is my dog! Please vote for our hometown hero-BETTY WHITE!!

Meet Moses, I pulled Moses from the local shelter upon being notified he was going to be euthanized.Volunteering with Ring Dog Rescue a local Bully organiztion, we try to help the ones with no hope of survival. I decided within 24 hrs. that Moses was to be mine, no foster for me. With not a piece of hair, he looked like a baby hippopotamus. Serious mange and upper respiratory infection. The puppy we thought was 4 months old turned out to be between 10 and 12 months, really rough beginning. Although
we pulled his sister too, she passed away within 3 days. She was too far gone. Moses has developed into a lovely blue brindle, quite a handsome surprise. He is a Canine Good Citizen, certified with Therapy Dogs Inc. and a member of Caring Canines Therapy Dogs. We have well over 100 dogs in our group. My 2 being the only Bullies. Moses goes the the Veterans Hosp. a real big hit the the veterans. He visits nursing homes, he is such a gentle soul.
We go to University   of Richmond for "stress out" day during exam week to calm the students. He has been to an Animal Law class instructed by the Assistant District Attorney to educate the students on dog fighting and animal abuse, he walks in the Cristmas Parade . He raised over $1,000.00 for the Richmond Animal League and secured a spot in their 2012 Calendar. I cannot say enough good things about this dog, but i was surely blessed when our paths crossed.

Junior was on death row when we met him last December at Wake County Animal Control.  The ladies there told us, "You don't want to see 'That Dog' and 'noone wants to see That Dog'.  He had been there for almost 90 days when I first spotted him and fell in love with him.
We brought him house right after Christmasand now he has a forever home with beds, blankets and sofas!  We love him and want to share him with you.

Sookie was rescued from animal care and control where she was left at only 3 weeks. She found her way to The Humane Society of Charlotte where she stayed in foster care until she was 8 weeks old. Sookie has become an ambassador not only for both ACC and the HSC but for APBF as well. She has attended many events and behaves like a lady. She is very photogenic and has changed many people's mind not only about pit bulls

Sookie
We adopted Luci in July 2011 from the APBF.  She is
not a show dog or a search dog or anything other than the sweetest pitbull you will ever meet!  She is a sweet, clumsy love bug who enjoys walking, running, and playing, as long as she has a human friend to go with her of course. She loves just about anything including cats, dogs and napping on her favorite bean bag.  Luci would be a great ambassador and as she is representative of how sweet this breed can really be!
